The next exhibit at the Dutchess Community College Mildred I. Washington Art Gallery will feature an eclectic selection of pieces by Monica d. Church, the associate director of the James W. Palmer '90 Gallery at Vassar College and a former technical assistant and art instructor at both Vassar and DCC. Her work has been shown throughout the northeast and across the country.

The Dutchess Community College Masquers' Guild will bring Neil Simon's "Brighton Beach Memoirs" to the stage from March 1-4. Performances will begin at 8 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday in the James and Betty Hall Theatre in Dutchess Hall on DCC's Poughkeepsie campus.

Dutchess Community College will host a screening of the documentary film "Our School," which focuses on the struggle of three minority children to desegregate their Romanian school. It will take place Jan. 10 from 2-4 p.m. in room 122 of Bowne Hall, on DCC's Poughkeepsie campus. It is free and open to the public, and will include a discussion with film director and producer Mona Nicoara.

23 Dec 2011DCC Student Earns Sheriff's Association Criminal Justice Scholarship
A New York State Sheriff's Association Institute Criminal Justice Scholarship has been awarded to Dutchess Community College student and Pleasant Valley resident Jesse Fuerst. The $250 award is presented annually to a full-time Criminal Justice major from each community college in New York state. Candidates for the scholarship must excel academically as well as demonstrate financial need.

Thirty-nine Dutchess Community College freshmen were formally awarded the 2011 Charles E. and Mabel E. Conklin Scholarship for Academic Excellence recently, joining family members and Mr. and Mrs. Conklin for a luncheon on campus. When combined with the Conklin scholars who began at DCC last fall, approximately 80 students currently are benefiting from the initiative.

College Connection, the Dutchess Community College concurrent enrollment program that enables high school students to take college courses while simultaneously completing high school requirements, recently received accreditation from the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP). DCC’s program is the only one in the region – and one of just 66 nationwide – to earn this coveted accreditation.

The annual Sing-a-Thon/Play-a-Thon hosted by the Music School at Dutchess Community College will be held on July 30 from 2-5 p.m. in the James and Betty Hall Theatre on the main DCC campus in Poughkeepsie. The event – at which DCC students, faculty and community members perform - benefits the MusicLink Scholarship Fund, which provides free or low-cost music lessons to students who could otherwise not afford them. Attendance is free, but donations to MusicLink will be gladly accepted at the door. Additionally, the performers have requested sponsors for their efforts, with proceeds going to MusicLink.

Dutchess Community College and more than 200 guests gathered today to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter in the College’s history - the groundbreaking for on-campus student housing. Scheduled to open for the fall 2012 semester, the 465-bed residence hall will enable students who wish to live away at college to do so, while benefitting from the quality, accessibility and affordability of a DCC education.

23 May 2011Graduation Another Record-Breaker
Dutchess Community College celebrated its 52nd Commencement May 19, graduating the most students in its history. Associate degrees and career certificates in 54 programs of study were conferred on 1,201 graduates, who range in age from 18 to almost 67. The graduation ceremony was held in Falcon Hall on DCC’s main campus; more than 4,000 were in attendance, with many guests viewing the festivities at several simulcast sites throughout campus.

11 May 2011Student Filmmakers are Finalists in Local Competition
The first ever Eli Jaffe Film Competition will culminate May 15 at 1 p.m. at Upstate Films in Rhinebeck with a screening of the five projects that have been selected as finalists prior to the announcement of the winner. Film and video students at the five regional colleges were invited to submit projects that addressed public issues. Both narrative and documentary projects were reviewed by a team of judges including local filmmaker Lisa Krueger, screenwriter and Marist faculty member Josh Robbins and Upstate Films Assistant Director Becca Prahl.

Eight DCC students were invited to Albany recently to receive honors from SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher. Five students received the 2011 State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence, while three were presented awards from Phi Theta Kappa.

Dutchess Community College will hold an information night for high school juniors who are interested in earning college credit during their senior year. By attending DCC simultaneously with high school, students can get a low-cost jump start on college. This Early Admissions/Bridge Program provides an opportunity for seniors to attend DCC either full- or part-time.

High school students with an interest in architecture will have the opportunity to spend a day working with experts in the field at the Sixth Annual Dutchess Community College Day of Design on Feb. 5. Local students in 10th, 11th and 12th grades will work with professional architects on a design project. By the end of the day, the students will have developed a concept board and architectural model.

Richard Keller-Coffey, deputy supervisor of the Town of Poughkeepsie and former Dutchess County legislator in 2008 and 2009, was sworn in Sept. 28 as the newest trustee on the Dutchess Community College board.

Dutchess Community College set an enrollment record this fall, with more than 10,000 students taking courses totaling more than 100,000 credit hours. Full-time students outnumber part-time students this semester, continuing a trend and setting a record for both full-time and overall enrollment.

Dutchess Community College’s Mildred I. Washington Art Gallery just launched an exhibit featuring artwork created by DCC students in the spring and summer 2010 semesters. The exhibit will continue through Oct. 1 and is free and open to the public. It features photography, drawings, ceramics, graphics, paintings and more. The work was chosen for display by instructors teaching both introductory and advanced art classes.

The Dutchess Community College Office of Community Services and the Clean Energy Technology Training Consortium are teaming up to offer a free information session on careers available in green technologies, and the training needed to get jobs in the emerging field. The session will be held Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. in room 122 of Bowne Hall on the main DCC campus in Poughkeepsie.

Pace Law School adjunct professor James Van Nostrand will give Dutchess Community College’s annual Constitution Day lecture at noon on Sept. 17. It will be held in the James and Betty Hall Theatre on the DCC Poughkeepsie campus at noon.

Dutchess Community College celebrated its 51st Commencement May 20, graduating the most students in its history. Associate’s degrees and career certificates in 51 programs of study were conferred on 1,040 graduates, who range in age from 18 to 62. The graduation ceremony was held under sunny skies on the George A. Strba soccer field on DCC’s main campus; more than 4,000 were in attendance.

Modern Dance Company to Visit DCC for Lyceum Program
Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – Linda Diamond & Company, an award-winning professional dance group, is coming to Dutchess Community College on October 15 at 12:30 p.m. in the James and Betty Hall Theatre on DCC’s main Poughkeepsie campus.
The group’s performances feature a multi-cultural dance repertoire combined with different visual themes to produce a show that appeals to all ages. A section from the award-winning DanceVisions of Picasso will be incorporated into the DCC performance.
Choreographer Linda Diamond has received several Dutchess County Arts Council Awards for her Woodstock Diamond Dance Festival projects.
The show is part of the College’s Lyceum series, and is free and open to the public.
